Research Interests

Prof. Al-Juaied 's research interests are in the field of energy sustainability, specifically on topics related to Circular Carbon Economy (CCE). The CCE has become a primary framework for addressing the Kingdom’s climate change mitigation plans, and has provided the basis for the recently announced 2060 net-zero national target.

To enable broad deployment of CCE technologies, several obstacles need to be overcome, including technological, economic, environmental, and policy challenges. Traditional engineering approaches play an important role but cannot provide a complete answer.

Prof. Al-Juaied is interested in assessing how CCE technologies are likely to evolve, developing methods to support rapid and effective screening of related early-stage technologies, improving approaches used in scenario-based energy systems modeling, devising policy mechanisms to incentivize CCE technologies and incorporating the theory of technology innovation into energy and environmental policymaking. Rigorous development and application of lifecycle and technoeconomic modeling will be employed.
