Sean Caughlan, PE

Sean is a Senior Marine Engineer at Glosten, a full-service marine consultancy based in Seattle, Washington. Sean earned degrees in both Energy Systems and Mechanical Engineering, and he is a professionally licensed mechanical engineer in the state of Washington. Sean Caughlan is one of the industry’s leading experts on the design of alternative-fueled, battery-hybrid, and all electric powered vessels including ferries, tugs, Ro-Ro ships, and research vessels.

Sean’s experience includes serving as Project Manager for the concept designs of several hydrogen-fueled research vessels as well as managing several hybrid and battery powered vessel projects. He is currently leading the design of a floating hydrogen refueling station in California, managing the conversion of Washington State Ferries' largest passenger vessels from diesel electric to plug-in hybrid, and is consulting on the design of a groundbreaking hydrogen-hybrid research vessel for Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, California.
