Biography

Dr Penny Atkins is a Principal Lecturer and Deputy Director of the Advanced Engineering Centre at the University of Brighton. She has a keen interest in future sustainable fuels and societal needs in the transport sector, coupled with practical research into clean, efficient propulsion. Current projects include development of hydrogen engines for trucks and ships, investigation of ammonia fuel for long range shipping and supporting local production of carbon negative biomethane. Prior to joining University of Brighton in 2017, she held a range of roles including vehicle development for Jaguar Land Rover and most recently as Head of Technology Strategy at Ricardo UK, delivering insight across transport sectors for clients in industry and government.
