Jason Damazo

Lead scientist, Boeing

Biography

Jason Damazo is the lead scientist at the Boeing Research and Technology Shock Physics Lab. He received his PhD in 2013 from Caltech where he investigated gaseous detonation, and was accepted into the Boeing Technical Fellowship as an Associate Technical Fellow in 2023.

At Boeing, Jason has advanced methods to create and demonstrate the safe operability of aerospace systems subject to explosion, ignition, high-g loading, and ballistic impact. He is researching how to improve aviation safety by understanding fuel-air ignition, exploring how to certify safe-to-fly systems that use prospective carbon-free alternative aerospace fuels (such as liquid hydrogen), and is investigating planetary protection through asteroid deflection via kinetic impact.

Jason enjoys his job; he also enjoys running marathons, cooking, and board games.
