Professor Eva Gutheil has received her PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany in 1988. In 1989 and from 1993-94 she was visiting researcher at UC San Diego and UC Irvine, CA, USA. From 1990-1992 and 1995-96, she did research at Stuttgart University in Germany, where she got her 2nd PhD in Thermal Energy Sciences in 1998. From 1996-1998 she was researcher at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart, Germany. Since 1998, she is professor for Physical Chemistry at Heidelberg University at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing. Her research concerns the modeling and simulation of two-phase flows in medical applications, in environmental physics, in spray drying and in technical combustion systems. She was co-chair of the 29th and 30th International Combustion Symposia. From 2013-2016, she was member of the International Advisory Board of the Combustion Engine Research Center (CERC), Chalmers University, Gothenburg, Sweden. Since 2015, she is President International of the Institutes of Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems of Asia, Europe, and the Americas. She is co-organizer of the workshop series on Turbulent Combustion of Sprays (TCS).
