The three-day Workshop was held from March 7 to March 9, 2016 under the auspices of the Clean Combustion Research Center (CCRC) at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia.

The Workshop encompassed a wide spectrum of cutting edge technologies relevant to fuel production, utilization, and global sustainability issues with an emphasis on low-grade and alternative fuels for transportation and stationary power sectors. It brought together leading experts from academia, national laboratories, and industry to promote international collaborations in establishing research and development direction for diverse fuel formulation and utilization towards clean and efficient power generation systems.

The Workshop was organized around five thematic areas / topical sessions:

  1. Fuel production

  2. Fuel sustainability

  3. Fuel chemistry

  4. Fuel utilization

  5. Low grade fuels

Overall, around two hundred attendees participated in the workshop, including faculty and researchers from leading institutions worldwide, industrial participants, students, and postdocs.

The Workshop program allowed for plenty of interaction and discussion, as well as unique social activities on the Red Sea.
